ACADEMIC WRITING TASK
The IELTS Academic Writing test is made up of two tasks, Writing Task 1 and Writing Task 2. The questions in the Academic Writing test are different to those in the General Training Writing test.

In Academic Writing Task 1, you will be shown a visual representation of information; a graph, table, chart or diagram, and you are asked to summarise, describe or explain the information you see.

In Academic Writing Task 2, you will be presented with a point of view, argument, or problem. The topics can range from the environment to immigration, culture, and even technology. You might be asked to, agree or disagree with a point of view or argument, discuss two opposing views.
ABOUT WRITING

Task 1(about 20 minutes) is report writing where you write a 150-165 words summary of the information provided in a graph , chart, table or diagram, or a combination of these.

Task 2(about 40 minutes) is essay writing of 250 words in response to a question or an argument on a general topic.

Task Achievement – Under this criterion, interpretation of information, detail and accuracy is assessed.

Grammatical range and accuracy – This is to check the examinee’s control over grammar, ability to form complex sentences and usage of correct tenses.

Lexical Resource – This part assesses the range of candidate’s vocabulary, spelling and the choice of words for relevant context.

Coherence and Cohesion – The candidate is assessed on how she or he organizes and paragraphs information.

Task Response – Under this, the examinee’s ideas and the extent of developing them in order to come to a valid conclusion is judged.
